Dear St. Aidan’s,

This coming Sunday, runners will be making their way around the city in the annual Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Queen Street East will be closed between Woodbine and Balsam, which means some of you may find it more challenging (or even impossible) to make your way to worship with us at the church. If you find this to be the case, please consider joining the 10:30 service via our Zoom livestream. Click here to join. https://us06web.zoom.us/j/91628466455

Another logistical challenge this week is that we have a crew coming to the church to certify the lift in the Chapel and chancel area of the Nave. This is very good news, as we have been patiently awaiting being able to make the lift available to those who need it. However, what it means for this Wednesday is that the midweek Eucharist will be canceled this week. The Wednesday 10:30 a.m. service will resume on October 25.

As Elizabeth and I work together to plan new ways of engaging with our children and youth, we are experimenting with a new pattern for children and youth. Beginning this Sunday, children and youth who would like to partake in the downstairs activities will be dismissed just after the Land Acknowledgement and will return by the Peace. This will give them a solid half hour for the children’s and youth program, allow them to join us for the sharing of the Peace and all that follows. And starting this Sunday, youth will begin to bring forward the oblations (bread, wine, and water) during the offertory hymns, as a way of giving them a meaningful opportunity to serve in our worship.

Related to this, I am working with Grace Rockett and Elizabeth Achimah to plan a server training, which will take place on November 12 after the 10:30 service; lunch will be provided. Any interested child or teen in grade 4 or higher can come learn about the server roles—carrying the cross, torches, and Gospel, and assisting the deacon and priest by carrying items to the altar table for communion. Participating in this brief, hands-on workshop will allow them the chance to learn if this is a ministry they would like to give a try (or a refresher for those who served before). We are planning to schedule teams of three to four servers each Sunday beginning in Advent (December 3 and onward). If your child or teen will join us for the lunch and training on November 12, or if you have any questions, please email me at priest@staidansinthebeach.com

Grace and peace,

Becky+
