April 26, 2024

Dear St. Aidan’s,

This Sunday is a very special day in the life of St. Aidan’s as we welcome Bishop Kevin Robertson to lead us in worship for one service at 10:30 a.m. I am so pleased that nine people from this parish—Amelia, Amelie, Annika, Brandon, Cybil, Mark, Paul, Poppy, and Xavier—dedicated their time and energy over the past two months to preparing to make their confirmation promises. Being able to share the confirmation service together here at St. Aidan’s is especially meaningful, as the people of this parish are the ones who will be supporting the confirmands as they continue to grow and deepen in their faith in Christ.

Many of you have generously committed to bring to food to share for the reception after the service. Please leave these items on the appropriately labeled tables when you arrive in the Narthex (Queen Street entry) on Sunday morning before the service.

Thank you to all sharing food as well as those helping set up tables and chairs and all the behind-the-scenes preparations necessary to make this day extra special for our confirmands and their families—and for all who will gather to celebrate them as we worship together. Thank you especially to our children’s and youth minister, Elizabeth Achimah, for leading the six youth confirmands in their preparation.

I look forward to seeing you in church this Sunday,

Becky+

 2. Food offerings for confirmation reception: Thanks to all of you who signed up to share food for our reception this Sunday following the 10:30 service. We will have tables set up in the narthex (front church entryway) to receive your items when you arrive before the service. Please place your items on the appropriate table (there will be signs on the tables by type of food—desserts, fruit and veggies, and so on).

 3. Altar flower dedications: We include fresh flowers in our worship space to remind us of the wonder, joy, and provision God shares with us through the gifts of nature. Several dates from June to August are open.

See the binder in the Narthex for a full list of dates. If you would like to donate for a specific date, please fill in the information on the list.

 4. Gardening Group seeks new volunteers: You’ll have noticed the construction happening in the West Garden. Plants have been ordered. We’ll learn delivery dates soon. A communal planting date may be determined. In addition, the driveway garden was cleaned last fall by a small group, who will continue with planting and weeding this spring and summer. If you’d like to join us for that work, or the West Garden tasks, please send a note to Ian MacRae, Courtney Ebner, or Sheila Dunn. If you have any perennials that could do with splitting, please contact Ian. No hostas please. A garden group member will arrange a visit and will take your treasure for transplanting in the driveway garden.

 5. Children’s and youth ministries parents’ meeting: We will gather on Sun., May 5 after the 10:30 service in the Willow Room. Childcare will be provided. For more information, contact Elizabeth Achimah.

 6. Our annual Moorelands ‘Send a Kid to Camp’ campaign has begun. Please see the display in the Narthex (church entryway), or go to the Moorelands Kids website (moorelands.ca) for more information about their camp programs for Toronto children. It costs approximately $1800 to provide a child with a session of camp. Donations can be made to St. Aidan’s, and at the end of June we will forward 100% of the funds to the camp. Thank you in advance for your support!

To make a donation to this campaign:

 7. Beach Interfaith Outreach: Locations and dates are listed in the Beach Metro News. Tues., May 7, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. is the next lunch here. As part of St. Aidan’s involvement in the Beach Interfaith Outreach Committee, we support the Grace Pascoe Care Centre. Your weekly donations (to the basket by the church office) are gratefully received.

 8. Blessing of the Bikes, Sun., May 12: Murray McCarthy has invited his motorcycling group to attend worship with us at the 10:30 service on May 12. We will offer a blessing for them and their motorcycles—for safety in their travels—after the 10:30 service that day. If you have a motorcycle—or scooter or bicycle—you would like to be blessed (or know someone who would also appreciate a blessing of this kind), we welcome you to ride it to church on that Sunday. Questions? Contact Murray McCarthy.

 9. Euchre: Join us on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. for a fun and friendly evening of progressive Euchre downstairs in the main hall. Beginners welcome. $5.00 to play. All proceeds go to our community outreach.

10. An archive of sermon manuscripts by Rev. Becky, along with sermons and weekly reflections by Deacon Michael, can be found on our website: https://staidansinthebeach.com/services/pages/sermons-and-reflections
