2. Exploring Interfaith Ministry: Zoom Panel – Monday, January 30, 7:00-9:00pm

The Bishop’s Committee on Interfaith Ministry, co-chaired by the Rev. Jeff Nowers, is holding its first annual education initiative. The Zoom event will feature Guru Fatha Singh Khalsa (Sikh), Imam Abdul Hai Patel (Muslim), and Dr. Jennifer Bright (Buddhist) discussing together the importance and challenges of interfaith encounter from each of their own faith traditions. The Rev. Canon John Hill will be the discussion moderator. More information, including how to register for the event, can be found here.

3. Music Pilot Project

As our Pilot Project continues, there are a few ‘Pilot Sundays’ to mark on your calendars: Chant Sunday (Jan 29), Folk Music Sunday (Feb 5), and Jazz Sunday (Feb 19). As part of the Pilot Project, we are also expanding our roster of regular instrumentalists. If you play an instrument, any type of percussion, or enjoying singing, we’d love to be able to add you do our roster of musicians. Please contact music@staidansinthebeach.com to let Michael know if you’d like your name added to the roster. More information will be available with each Pilot Sunday.

4. Candlemas Family Service: Sunday, February 5 at 10:30 am

There will be no separate children’s and youth programming on Sunday, February 5. Instead, everyone will gather for a family-friendly participatory celebration of Candlemas - an event of the liturgical calendar that marks Joseph and Mary's presentation of Jesus in the Temple. Over the centuries Candlemas has also become a celebration of light. A blessing of candles will take place during the service. You are invited to bring any candles from home (for whatever use) to be blessed.

5. Children’s Ministry Lunch & Learn - Feb 5

Attention all parents with young children! On Sunday, February 5, after the 10:30 service, we will hold a Lunch & Learn (pizza). This is a great opportunity to share whatever questions or suggestions you have for children’s programming at St. Aidan’s. We’re looking forward to hearing your ideas!

6. The Annual Vestry Meeting will take place on Sunday, February 26th following the 10:30 service.  The deadline for submitting reports from church organizations is Tuesday, February 7th. Please email them to office@staidansinthebeach.com.

7. Four Questions of Faith: A Lenten Study

If you're interested in being baptized or confirmed, or if you’re wanting to deepen your own understanding of Christian faith, this adult Lenten study series is for you! The Rev. Jeff Nowers will be facilitating four learning sessions, on Sundays after the 10:30 service: Who is God? (March 5), Who is Jesus? (March 12), Who are we? (March 19), What is the new creation? (March 26). We will meet in the Willow Room downstairs from 12:00-1:30pm. A service of baptism will be held here at St. Aidan’s at Easter. A service of confirmation will take place at the Cathedral in May for everyone in the Diocese.

8. East End Refugee Committee

Sue Stuart is looking for another parishioner to join with her and Flo Cook as a St. Aidan’s representative to the East End Refugee Committee of six faith communities. We meet monthly and, during a sponsorship, undertake many settlement tasks. Currently there are 13 reps: 11 women and 2 men so an additional man would be most welcome (although not required) to interact with male newcomers. I’d be very happy to discuss this further with anyone interested. Please call. 416-691-6869. Thanks. Sue Stuart

9. Meet Your Beaches-East York MPP, Mary-Margaret McMahon Tues. Jan. 31st 7:30 PM at St. Aidan’s Church (2423 Queen St E at Silver Birch)

Ontario today faces major challenges, in areas such as healthcare, housing/homelessness, food insecurity, environment, and democracy. On Tuesday, January 31st the Beaches—East York Interfaith Coalition will be hosting a meeting with Mary-Margaret McMahon, our new Member of Provincial Parliament to share our views on these issues from a religious and ethical perspective. The Beaches-East York Interfaith Coalition includes representatives from Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities in the riding.  It has hosted candidate meetings during previous federal, provincial and municipal elections.  It engages in political advocacy as a way of articulating the values of faith communities in the riding. We hope you will join us. Let’s make our voices heard.
