Wear an Orange Shirt!

This Sunday, Sept 25, you are invited to wear an orange shirt (or anything that prominently displays the colour orange) in anticipation of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept 30. Orange Shirt Day is a reminder of the story of Phyllis Webstad, a First Nations woman from B.C. On her first day in residential school, Phyllis wore a new orange shirt that her grandmother had just given her. But school officials quickly stripped her of the shirt and forced her and all other students to wear a plain school uniform. The orange shirt was never returned to Phyllis. It remains a symbol of the genocidal impact of residential schools on Indigenous people.

Schools renting space at St. Aidan’s
