5. Sad News: Brenda Cogan Howsam
We have been praying for Valear's sister-in-law Brenda for many months, as she journeyed through ALS. Brenda died peacefully in her sleep at home last Tuesday, aged 66. She leaves her husband Gary and children Meryl, Joshua and Jessica. Please keep the family in your prayers at this time of loss and pandemic-enforced separation.

6. FaithWorks Appeal This Month
Through the month of May we are highlighting FaithWorks, the organization of the Diocese of Toronto that raises funds to support ministry partners who serve the needs of people who are indigenous, homeless, hungry, at-risk, vulnerable or marginalized.
If you would like to consider making a donation to FaithWorks, details are here: https://faithworks.ca/donating-to-faithworks/

7. Meditation Group Resumes: May 5
A new meditation series begins next week, taking place as usual on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8 pm by Zoom. The series will run from May 5 to June 30, but we will skip the session on May 19th, when we are hosting David Miller to speak about his book Solved (see below), on the urban response to the climate crisis. The theme of this spring meditation series is emptying, clearing space, letting go, befriending death.

9. Episcopal Restructuring Report
In June of 2020 Bishop Andrew Asbil announced the formation of the Episcopal Leadership Working Group (the ELWG) with a mandate to consider and report to him on alternative models for the exercise of episcopal leadership, oversight, and pastoral ministry within the Diocese of Toronto. The report has now been released, and town hall meetings are scheduled in May to discuss it. To read the report, watch a video by Bishop Andrew, and register for a town hall meeting, please go to:

10. AURA Fundraiser for Refugees
AURA (Anglican United Refugee Alliance) is partnering this spring with Plantables as a fundraiser. If you are looking for ways to be healthy, avoid potentially busy greenhouses, and become more self-reliant, you can order garden-ready plants. They cost $4 each and will be shipped to your home directly on the date of your choosing anywhere in Ontario or Quebec. 10% of your purchase will help AURA continue to support refugees.  Here is the link:

11. Beach United presents Rock & Roll Revisited
This video is an invitation to see the world through the music and lyrics of Bruce Cockburn. Cockburn is one of those talented, multi-faceted people; an activist, author, songwriter, poetic lyricist, spiritual explorer.  All donations go to support the music and food ministry of Beach United Church.
