2. Candlemas Family Service: February 5 at 10:30am

This coming Sunday we will be celebrating Candlemas. There will be no separate children’s and youth programming, as all ages will be together. During the service we will have a special blessing of candles. Please bring your candles from home (for whatever use) to be blessed!

3. Children’s Ministry Lunch & Learn

Attention all parents with young children! On Sunday, February 5, after the 10:30 service, we will hold a Lunch & Learn (pizza). This is a great opportunity to share whatever questions or suggestions you have for children’s programming at St. Aidan’s. We’re looking forward to hearing your ideas!

4. Music Pilot Project

There are two ‘Pilot Sundays’ coming up: Folk Music Sunday (Feb 5), and Jazz Sunday (Feb 19). As part of the Pilot Project, we are also expanding our roster of regular instrumentalists. If you play an instrument, any type of percussion, or enjoying singing, we’d love to be able to add you do our roster of musicians. Please contact music@staidansinthebeach.com to let Michael know if you’d like your name added to the roster. More information will be available with each Pilot Sunday.

5. Vestry Report Deadline and Annual Meeting:

Tuesday, February 7th is the deadline for submitting reports from church organizations. Please email them to office@staidansinthebeach.com.  The Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, February 26th following the 10:30 service.

6. Vestry List

The vestry list is now posted in the narthex. This is a list of all qualified voting members of vestry. Our annual vestry meeting will be held on Sunday, February 26, shortly after the 10:30 service. To be a member of vestry, you must (1) be at least 16 years of age, (2) have been a regular worshipper at St. Aidan’s for at least 3 months over the last 12 months, and (3) not be a member of another parish vestry. Clergy and any paid staff are not voting members of vestry. If your name is not on the list, please contact Gemma Snider, Marilyn Thompson or the Rev. Jeff Nowers.

7. Four Questions of Faith: A Lenten Study

If you're interested in being baptized or confirmed, or if you’re wanting to deepen your own understanding of Christian faith, this adult Lenten study series is for you! The Rev. Jeff Nowers will be facilitating four learning sessions, on Sundays after the 10:30 service: Who is God? (March 5), Who is Jesus? (March 12), Who are we? (March 19), What is the new creation? (March 26). We will meet in the Willow Room downstairs from 12:00-1:30pm. A service of baptism will be held here at St. Aidan’s at Easter. A service of confirmation will take place at the Cathedral in May for everyone in the Diocese.

8. Beach Cares requests your support

The Beach Cares is cooperative sponsorship group supported by St. Aidan’s in the Beach, Beach United Church, and members of the community-at-large.  We have completed 3 successful sponsorships over the last six years: the most recent was a young woman who came to Canada from Syria, alone. One of her brothers had settled years earlier in Ukraine, where he met his wife and together they began to build their life together.  When Russia invaded they fled to Poland and then Amsterdam as refugees.  The Beach Cares is bringing this young Ukrainian refugee couple to Canada, and will reunite brother and sister.  Their arrival is imminent and we need to raise funds to help with one year of housing and living expenses, our goal is $20,000.   If their story resonates with you please consider donating online through www.CanadaHelps.org Search for St Aidan's Church, then use the pulldown menu to specify; “3. The Beach Cares Refugee Fund (Ukraine)” Thanks so much for your support.

9. East End Refugee Committee

Sue Stuart is looking for another parishioner to join with her and Flo Cook as a St. Aidan’s representative to the East End Refugee Committee of six faith communities. We meet monthly and, during a sponsorship, undertake many settlement tasks. Currently there are 13 reps: 11 women and 2 men so an additional man would be most welcome (although not required) to interact with male newcomers. I’d be very happy to discuss this further with anyone interested. Please call. 416-691-6869. Thanks. Sue Stuart

10. Coffee Hour Hosts needed!

We are looking for coffee hour hosts for this Sunday and for the rest of the year.  Hosting is easy and if you haven't done it yet, we will train you!  Sign up here or contact Courtney at staidans.parishactivities@gmail.com for more information.

11. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, February 21, 5:30 -7:00 p.m.

We are hosting a pancake supper and fundraiser on Shrove Tuesday to raise money for our Outreach Programs.  Join us and invite your friends and neighbours to "pay what you wish" for a delicious pancake meal.  We are looking for volunteers to pass out flyers and help the night of the event.   Sign up here or contact Courtney at staidans.parishactivities@gmail.com for more information.

12. Wednesday Meditation

Each Wednesday at 7:30pm the Rev. Jeff Nowers facilitates a time of silence for meditation. All are welcome. No experience in meditation necessary!

13. Euchre

Join us on Tuesday nights at 7pm for a fun and friendly evening of progressive Euchre downstairs in the main hall.  Beginners welcome.  $5.00 to play.  All proceeds go to St. Aidan’s Church community outreach.

14. Food Bank Needs

Donations of non-perishable food items for the Grace Pascoe Care Centre food bank and the St. John’s Norway food pantry are always welcome. Please place them in the basket in the narthex. Note: empty egg cartons are needed once again.  Your donations are delivered every week or two and are very well received. Thank you!
