5. Social Justice and Advocacy Motion

Once again the diocesan Social Justice and Advocacy Committee has put forward a motion for parishes to consider at their annual vestry meetings. This year the focus is on raising the social assistance rates for both Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program.  Background material on the motion is available via this link: https://mcusercontent.com/9602008078ea1b1ac17a38d52/files/2f592b68-1ed9-7491-8566-1c3ddb571461/Vestry_Motion_2023.pdf

6. Four Questions of Faith: A Lenten Study

If you're interested in being baptized or confirmed, or if you’re wanting to deepen your own understanding of Christian faith, this adult Lenten study series is for you! The Rev. Jeff Nowers will be facilitating four learning sessions, on Sundays after the 10:30 service: Who is God? (March 12), Who is Jesus? (March 19), Who are we? (March 26), What is the new creation? (April 2). We will meet in the Willow Room downstairs from 12:00-1:30pm. A service of baptism will be held here at St. Aidan’s at Easter. A service of confirmation will take place at the Cathedral on May 7 at 4:30 pm for everyone in the Diocese.

7. Parish Selection Process Meeting, Sunday, March 5 after church

The Parish Selection Committee invites you to meet with us after church on Sunday, March 5 to ask questions and provide feedback on the process. Our parish profile has been posted on the Diocesan website as well as other national and international outlets. The Bishop is accepting applicants and the Parish Selection Committee (PSC) is prepping for interviews.  If you have any questions or input, please visit the "Parish Selection Process" page under the "Church Life" tab at staidansinthebeach.com, find a member of the PSC (we will be wearing nametags on Sunday to help you identify us) or email us at staidans.psc@gmail.com.  Your PSC includes Meghan Hull Jacquin, Courtney Ebner, Matt James, Sue Stuart, Shelley Clarke, Roborta Atkinson, Philip Robson and Natalie Snider.

8. Beach Cares requests your support

The Beach Cares is cooperative sponsorship group supported by St. Aidan’s in the Beach, Beach United Church, and members of the community-at-large.  We have completed 3 successful sponsorships over the last six years: the most recent was a young woman who came to Canada from Syria, alone. One of her brothers had settled years earlier in Ukraine, where he met his wife and together they began to build their life together.  When Russia invaded they fled to Poland and then Amsterdam as refugees.  The Beach Cares is bringing this young Ukrainian refugee couple to Canada, and will reunite brother and sister.  Their arrival is imminent and we need to raise funds to help with one year of housing and living expenses, our goal is $20,000.   If their story resonates with you please consider donating online through www.CanadaHelps.org Search for St Aidan's Church, then use the pulldown menu to specify; “3. The Beach Cares Refugee Fund (Ukraine)” Thanks so much for your support.

9. Wednesday Meditation

Each Wednesday at 7:30pm the Rev. Jeff Nowers facilitates a time of silence for meditation. All are welcome, especially those with no experience in meditation.  We will meet as usual on February 15, and then pause for the season of Lent.

10. Euchre

Join us on Tuesday nights at 7pm for a fun and friendly evening of progressive Euchre downstairs in the main hall.  Beginners welcome.  $5.00 to play.  All proceeds go to St. Aidan’s Church community outreach.

11. Food Bank Needs

Donations of non-perishable food items for the Grace Pascoe Care Centre food bank and the St. John’s Norway food pantry are always welcome. Please place them in the basket in the narthex. Note: empty egg cartons are needed once again.  Your donations are delivered every week or two and are very well received. Thank you!

12. The Cole Academy Open House, February 21, 1:00 p.m.

The Cole Academy, the school that rents rooms throughout our Lower Level, is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. for prospective students.  At TCA, students are challenged to use their own creative approaches to learning by using arts, environmental education and social justice as tools to promote independence, confidence, and self-expression. Please contact Jamie@thecoleacademyoftoronto.com with questions and to rsvp.
