2. Advent Discussion

This Sunday, December 11, we will continue our Advent discussion after the 10.30 service i.e. at 11.30 a.m. in the Willow Room downstairs. The session will conclude no later than 12.30 noon. You don’t need to have attended the first session or to have read the book, Refugia Faith, by Debra Rienstra, to participate fully in the discussion. The session will be led by Martha Asselin and Michael Van Dusen. This is a great Advent exercise! Last week led to a lively conversation on the issues presented by this year’s Advent readings and Rienstra’s fascinating concepts. Links to a discussion guide and a summary of the book are below. There will be no zoom offered this week. If you have questions please contact John Brewin at jbrewin@ryderwright.ca.

3. Advent Lessons and Carols

All are invited for our Annual Service of Advent Lessons & Carols on Sunday, December 11th at 3:00pm. This much beloved tradition is based on the Sarum Rite of medieval monastic office of vigils. This year, our focus will be on the O Antiphons of Advent - Beginning on the 17th of December, the Church begins to use the seven “O Antiphons” during Vespers on the days preceding Christmas, calling on the Lord Jesus to hasten quickly and come to His people by invoking several of Christ’s great Messianic titles.

4. Christmas Flowers

Forms are available at the back of the church for those wishing to contribute to the cost of the Christmas flowers. Sunday December 18 is the deadline for returning the completed form along with your donation. Alternately, you can donate towards the cost of the Christmas flowers on-line. Your donation can be made by e-transfer to donations@staidansinthebeach.com . Names to be included in the Christmas leaflets need to be e-mailed to the church office by December 18.

5. Christmas Week Services at St. Aidan’s

Dec. 24 Christmas Eve, Family Eucharist with pageant at 4:30 pm, Sung Eucharist at 9 pm; Dec. 25 Christmas Day, Eucharist at 10:30 am;   Jan. 1 New Year’s Day, Eucharist at 10:30 am.

6. Masking Strongly Recommended Indoors

Because of the ongoing stress on our hospitals, Bishop Andrew Asbil has issued an important memo “strongly recommending the wearing of masks in indoor public settings, including in our church buildings.” He concludes his plea with these words: “As we come to the end of another difficult year, may God grant that we not tire of caring for our neighbours, but rather work toward the Reign of Christ when all will be reconciled in Him and in true wholeness of health.”

7. FaithWorks Appeal

We continue to invite donations to FaithWorks, the Diocese of Toronto’s co-ordinated outreach effort supporting 14 ministry partners who reach out to those in need in our greater Toronto community. The Diocese is also looking donations towards the creation of a Spirit Garden at Toronto City Hall in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call for the installation of Residential School Monuments in each provincial capital. A display and information packages are at the back of the church. You can also access the materials on-line at https://faithworks.ca
